Our story

Two friends and a different take on the Christmas tree

How two passionate friends decided to bring meaning back to the Christmas tree in Belgium. A project born of one simple conviction: a Christmas tree should be Belgian and reach you without any surprises.

From student jobs among the Christmas trees to Vert Sapin.

It all started long before Vert Sapin. We are two friends from Belgium. During our student years, we worked together in the Christmas tree trade. Every winter, we met up in the cold, unloading lorries, carrying trees to customers’ doors and advising families looking for the perfect tree for their living room.

It was during those seasons that we learned the trade. We saw from the inside what was done well, and what was done less well. We saw trees come from far away, sometimes treated several times as they grew, sometimes resold as “local” without anyone checking. And we saw, on the other hand, families who simply wanted a beautiful tree, without having to ask themselves any questions.

Over the years, the idea quietly took shape between us. We talked about it during breaks, after work, and on our trips to the mountains, where we found the real forest again: the one that smells of resin, damp wood and earth. Each time, the same question came back: why is a product so simple, and so present in our lives, treated so badly?

And then one day, we stopped talking about it. We decided to do it. We launched Vert Sapin with one simple conviction: a Christmas tree should be Belgian, come from a certified organic grower and reach you without any unpleasant surprises. No opaque middlemen, no long-distance transport: just a beautiful tree, chosen with care, delivered by the people who look after the project from start to finish.

Three generations of expertise, trees from a certified organic grower.

To create Vert Sapin, we needed a grower who could meet our standards. We met several, visited several Christmas tree farms and asked a great many questions. And we eventually found what we were looking for: a Belgian family, in the Christmas tree business for three generations, based about a hundred kilometres from Brussels.

What won us over? The way they grow their trees. No herbicides, fungicides, insecticides or growth regulators, with organic fertiliser. No shortcuts. Just know-how passed down from father to son, a detailed knowledge of Belgian soil, and real respect for what the land produces when it is given time.

There, a Nordmann fir takes between eight and ten years to reach its full size. That is a long time. But it is what gives it its density, its needle retention and its exceptional freshness when it arrives in your living room. No globalised supply chain can compete with that.

We work with this family through a short supply chain. No middlemen, no imports, no opaque reselling. The trees we offer today come from their fields, cut shortly before delivery and brought to you directly by our team.

What the certification guarantees

Our trees come from a Belgian grower certified organic, inspected by Certisys (BE-BIO-01). Certisys, an approved inspection body, checks on site, through regular inspections, that the grower follows the European rules for organic farming.

No herbicides, fungicides, insecticides or growth regulators, with organic fertiliser.

Vert Sapin sells these trees: it is the grower who is certified, not the shop. Find out more about the inspection body: Certisys.
